Today we are reading 2 Chronicles 23. In this chapter we read about Jehoiada the priest who led the coup over wicked Queen Athaliah. “And Jehoiada the priest gave to the captains the spears and the large and small shields that had been King David’s, which were in the house of God. And he set all the people as a guard for the king, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the south side of the house to the north side of the house, around the altar and the house. Then they brought out the king’s son and put the crown on him and gave him the testimony. And they proclaimed him king, and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and they said, “Long live the king.””
2 Chronicles 23:9-11 ESV Isn’t it interesting that the priests and Levites led the overthrow of the idolatrous leader? In our country, we tell the religious leaders to stay quiet. “Don’t get involved in politics.” In the founding of our country, there were many clergy and other Christians who spoke out and signed the Declaration of Independence. We are free, as Christians, to speak to the issues of today. In fact, we are commanded to speak when necessary. May God make you a courageous witness of the truth while at the same time giving honor and glory to Jesus. Pastor Tim
