Today we are reading 1 Thessalonians 1. In this chapter Paul writes about the faith of the Thessalonians who became believers during a time of intense persecution. The keyword for this chapter is “tu-pos”. The definition is, “example, type. Originally the word denoted the mark left by a blow. Then it was used in the ethical sense of a pattern of conduct but more usually, as here, of an example to be followed.” “And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.” 1 Thessalonians 1:6-7 ESV Paul is saying that the Holy Spirit gave the Thessalonians the courage and boldness that he had. Now the Thessalonians are the example to believers everywhere. Who has been an example to you? How have you followed their example? Who is following your example? May God raise you up as a beautiful example of courage and boldness! Pastor Tim
