Today we are reading 1 Samuel 9. In this chapter we read about Saul being shown as king. “Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed to Samuel: “Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seen my people, because their cry has come to me.” When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord told him, “Here is the man of whom I spoke to you! He it is who shall restrain my people.”” 1 Samuel 9:15-17 ESV The manner in which Saul was chosen is very interesting. First, he was not looking to become king, he was searching for his father’s lost donkeys. Second, he came from wealth. Third, Samuel knew he was coming. How was Saul a good choice to be king? How was this process of selection wise? Do you think God was actually trying to find a good king or to teach the Israelites a lesson and prepare them for David?
