1 Samuel 4

Today we are reading 1 Samuel 4. In this chapter we about the Ark of the Covenant being captured by the Philistines and the death of Eli. “So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell. And the ark of God was captured, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.” ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭4:10-11‬ ‭ESV‬‬ The Philistines were a very hostile neighbor of the Israelites. The nation of Israel did not have God’s blessing as they fought with their neighbor. In the past, God gave them great victories. They expected God to bless them—maybe even took it for granted. When they lost the initial skirmish they reasoned that they needed to bring the Ark of the Covenant with them as they faced their enemy. The result was disastrous! How do we sometimes treat God as a “good luck charm”? How can we ensure we are tracking with God’s plan and following His lead? May God bless you today as He guides you in all your ways. Pastor Tim
