Today we are reading 1 Samuel 15. In this chapter we read about Saul and the Amalekites. “And Samuel said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you king over his people Israel; now therefore listen to the words of the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'””
1 Samuel 15:1-3 ESV This command of God is difficult to understand. It goes back four hundred years to the time of the Exodus. The Israelites had just crossed the Red Sea and the Amalekites attacked them from behind. Moses called on Joshua to defend the Israelites and he was successful but apparently some of the Amalekites survived and still were a threat to them. Go knew that the Amalekites had the potential to cause great harm to His people so He commanded them to be completely destroyed. When Saul failed to obey this command he was rejected by God as king. Has God ever asked you to do something that you only partially obeyed? What is it that God is calling you to complete? Do it today. Pastor Tim
