Today we are reading 1 Samuel 12. In this chapter we read about Samuel’s farewell address to the nation of Israel. “If you will fear the Lord and serve him and obey his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, and if both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the Lord your God, it will be well. But if you will not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then the hand of the Lord will be against you and your king.” 1 Samuel 12:14-15 ESV Samuel gives a final word of admonition to the people and to their king. Fear the Lord = genuinely fear the awesome power of God to create and to destroy. Serve him = orient your life around serving others in His name. Obey his voice = whatever He says, do. Do not rebel against the commandment of the Lord = don’t excuse your sin or justify it. If you do these things you will be blessed by God and His hand will be with you. May you love the Lord your God with all your heart. Pastor Tim
