Today we are reading 1 John 5. John concludes this letter by writing about the victory that is ours through faith. The keyword for this chapter is “ni-ka-o”. The definition is “to overcome, to conquer, to gain a victory”. “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:4-5 ESV What is something that you have overcome in your life? We speak of overcoming adversity like poverty, hardship, racism, illness, injury, abuse etc. In Jesus’ name we overcome sin, death and the devil. This victory has eternal significance.
