1 John 1

Today we are reading 1 John 1.  In this chapter we read about the message that John and others proclaimed. The keyword for this chapter is “kath-ar-id-zo”. The definition is “to cleanse. The verb suggests that God does more than forgive; He erases the stain of sin.” “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:8-9‬ ‭ESV‬‬ I recently celebrated the birthday of a 95 year old woman. She shared a long ago birthday memory of a little girl who came to her party and while eating a cherry desert stained her new dress. Her parents were so upset that she was never allowed to go to another birthday party. Imagine if they could have cleansed the stain—all would have been well. Jesus cleanses us from the stain of our sin and for this reason we are welcomed to an eternal celebration!  May God bless you to confess your sins and rejoice in His cleansing!  Pastor Tim
