Today we are reading 1 Corinthians 16. This is the final chapter of 1 Corinthians. Paul gives some final instructions to the struggling church. The keyword for this chapter is is “gray-go-re-o”. The definition is “to watch, to stay awake, to be alert”. “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men (be courageous), be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 Paul’s words have everything to do with all that he wrote about in chapters 1-15. He is calling them to apply the lessons of Scripture regarding the congregation and how they live. He is calling them to abandon the way of the world and to follow the moral compass of the Holy Scriptures. Why is it so important for the Corinthians (and us) to be watchful? What is at stake? How will being watchful benefit us? Our church? Our families? May God strengthen you to stay alert in your faith! Pastor Tim
