Today we are reading 1 Corinthians 14. In this chapter Paul writes about using our gifts in church. “On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up. So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up. So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But all things should be done decently and in order.” 1 Corinthians 14:3-5, 12, 26, 39-40 ESV Notice how everything that is done in worship is for building up the church. So worship is not about what I want or what I like. Worship is for building up the church. What do we do in our worship that builds up our church? We teach the word of God. We worship the one true God. We pray for each other and our nation. May you be part of building up our church and equipping people for ministry. Pastor Tim
